Review: Annual Conference of the German Society for Economic Education (DEGÖB)

Over the course of three days, around 100 scientists at TU Dortmund University devoted themselves to an exchange of ideas on content-related and methodological issues on the topic of "Economic Education and Innovation". The program featured numerous highlights: The conference was opened by Yvonne Gebauer, Minister for Schools and Education in North Rhine-Westphalia, with a presentation on "Economics as a school subject in North Rhine-Westphalia". The keynote address was given by Prof. Ray Land (Emeriti) from Durham University on the topic: "Threshold concepts and troublesome knowledge: a transformational approach to economics education". In order to give the participants an insight into the structural changes in Dortmund, the evening event took place on the overall Phoenix site: Where until a few years ago a steel mill with tens of thousands of employees darkened the sky glowing red again and again, there is now a large city lake with a sailing harbor, restaurants, an upscale residential area, local recreation area, a location for high-tech start-ups. A skywalk tour and a guided tour of the Bergmann Brewery had been organized.
